When Is It Not a Great Time to Hire a Virtual Assistant

It is deemed a wise decision these days to invest on the services of a virtual assistant. True enough, virtual assistants can easily take a lot of load off of one\’s shoulders, handling most of your minor tasks and providing a great deal of assistance on work that needs your attention the most.

It is not, however, necessary to always have a virtual assistant at your side. There will always be times when you are better off doing your work on your own, or have a person report in flesh and blood to your office. Indeed, not at all times should it be said that hiring a VA is a smart move.

That all said, here is a quick list of situations where you\’d rather not employ the services of your friendly neighborhood VA:

  • You are running a business that requires live personnel to assist you on-site. There are tasks and functions that require you to have an emplyee that needs to be physically present. Receptionists, for example, need to regularly station themselves in your business\’ doorstep to greet and assist visitors and clients. That said, in this case, it is always best to invest your resources on personnel that you\’d expect to report regularly, in person, to your office, rather than hire a VA.
  • You are really, really strapped on cash. The services of a VA sure is not exclusive to the wealthy, but you do need money to avail of it. VAs are contractors that you have to pay on a regular basis for as long as you need them, and it\’s going to cost your business. If in cases where you only have meager capital or are not earning enough to have somebody on board, you\’d rather have a plan to grow or save your business, than have a VA work for you.
  • You don\’t need to outsource any job. If you or your existing personnel can do everything that needs to be done to keep your business running, that is, if there are no tasks that need to be outsourced to a third party, you are all set and will not need a VA. The same is true if you have no need for personal assistance and would prefer to do all your tasks on your own. In any case, if you have all the skills needed to run your business or make your life easier in-house, a VA is but a second option to you.

Virtual assistants certainly make for a great addition to any company. This is true provided that the business truly needs a VA, can afford one, or needs someone to do work only a VA can do. Remember, big decisions require a good bit of critical thinking, and whether or not you should hire a VA is one of those dilemmas.
