Virtual assistants don\’t get exciting jobs all the time. Many days, it\’s just another administrative job with nothing in it in the way of fun. What\’s worse is that the task ends up a rooutine, and you, in turn, grow a lot less motivated at dealing with it as the days go by.
In any case, there will always come a time in the life of a VA when they end up needing motivation to do the job at hand more than anything else. In these times, whispering “Just freaking do it” to yourself is not enough; you will have to do something to artificially pump up your motivation and end up having the work that needs to be done accomplished in the shortest possible period of time.
That said, here are a few things that you can do to drive yourself into finishing your current task, or at least get yourself working on it.
- Think about the reward. This could be no more than your well-deserved wage, or the satisfaction of finally being able to move on to a diffferent task. One of the best thoughts that you could have in this case, however, is thinking how much stress can you take off of your shoulders once you\’ve ticked one task off of your to-do list. Not only is it very satisfying to see your list shortened even by just one item, but it is also great to think that you\’d be one task less from accomplishment.
- Remember that it is your responsibility to get your work done. Remind yourself that doing the tasks currently assigned to you by your client is yourjob and you are paid for it, and therefore, you are obliged to do it and get it done on time no matter what. While fairly a simple self-motivation tactic, this line of thinking does wonders against laziness and procrastination.
- Take it as a challenge. Take your work as a challenge to your faltering professional values, your patience, or whatever else. This will make it all the more satisfying to complete your current task, especially since you get the right to stoke your ego a bit once you are done.
- Think about the deadlines. While this sounds a little stressful, it is one of the best ways to brute force yourself into taking on the task that needs to get done. Think of it as a whip that will prod your mind into action. It also helps that you do not cave in to the self-imposed pressure and instead, use it to move yourself forward.
